Röthlein, 12.01.2024. 80 Schäflein apprentices took the opportunity around Christmas and the turn of the year to get socially involved and take on responsibility. They supported social organisations and projects in various regions with a range of charitable activities. And they did it on their own initiative.

“We were allowed to decide for ourselves which organisations we wanted to support, how we wanted to get involved and how we wanted to do it,” says Andre Hader, second-year apprentice and proud project manager. “For us, training means developing young people’s personalities as well as their professional skills. This includes making the value of personal initiative and social commitment tangible,” emphasises Christoph Heller, CEO of Schäflein AG.

Actions with heart

In December, the Schäflein trainees collected hundreds of parcels at various collection points in Schweinfurt and the surrounding area for the Johanniter Christmas Trucker, which distributed them to people in need in south-east Europe. As another project with a heart, Christmas cards were made and written for the residents of the Schwebheim senior centre and the Haubenwasen foundation farm near the Schäflein site in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The Schäflein trainees sent Christmas greetings to the residents with over 100 handwritten and personalised texts. As presents are particularly popular with children and young people at Christmas, the trainees insisted on another campaign. With the support of the Schäflein apprentices, over 200 Christmas presents were handed over to the Diakonie kindergarten in Schwerte and the Maria Schutz youth welfare centre in Grafenrheinfeld. Also on board when the presents were handed over: a cheque for €1,000. As varied and diverse as the activities were, the tenor was the same: “It was a lot of fun to take on responsibility and make people happy during this time,” the trainees agreed.
