The sprintBOX professional team plays in the premier league: cleaning up to 50,000 parts a day

As a true Clubberer, i.e. a fan of 1. FC Nürnberg, I recently watched a very special home match home game, not in the football stadium, but in the sprintBOX arena in Nuremberg’s Edisonstraße. It’s amazing what this 20-strong squad can do there. In the 5,000 m² hall of the container logistics specialist sprintBOX, they clean plastic containers that are used to supply regional automotive suppliers and electronics specialists. sprintBOX is in top form this season as the league leader. When footballers say “the truth is on the pitch”, the “Nernberg” crate managers say “the truth is in the hall”.

The game begins

The game begins in the goods-in area, where the soiled reusable packaging is waiting to be replaced in the warm-up zone. The ESD containers and accessories have already been booked into the WMS so that the players can now immediately sort or pre-sort the delivery according to container type. They dispose of the waste and remove the labels. Blister packs and trays are pre-sorted and then it’s off to the washing system! The 16-metre room of this industrial throughput system was designed as a modular construction in a joint effort between the manufacturer and sprintBOX and is divided into different washing zones: Main, rinse and neutral zones. There are really no amateurs at work, but real professionals who use special cleaning agents. At the exit of the car wash, you won’t see a towel for miles. The final spurt in the drying zone uses turbo technology for energy-optimised and residue-free drying. That is sensational! Up to 50,000 parts, containers and accessories can be cleaned here every day.

Finishing with packaging

It looks very pleasing what the team achieves here, but there are no points just for playing nice! The successful finale also includes assembly. Once again, team spirit is on show: Containers and accessories are put together into so-called “SLC kits” according to packing instructions, wrapped, labelled, recorded in the system and stored temporarily until called off. These “SLC kits” are used to supply the supplier and customer circuits in a closed loop. After an ultra-short regeneration time, the clean container sets are usually ready for refilling at the customers’ and suppliers’ production facilities after just 24 hours.

This part of the game is organised by the sprintBOX Navigator, the container management software from sprintBOX. The overview of the reusable stocks and the request for the finished “SLC kits” is done at the click of a mouse. The customer’s dirty parts can also be picked up immediately so that the cycle runs smoothly, and there is no doubt that the Nuremberg-based company is playing in the premier league. In this sense – just like football.
